The Red Door in Edinburgh, Scotland

In 2009 while on tour with Seal, we had a day off in Edinburgh, Scotland where I wandered a bit with my camera. I captured this glowing red door against the soot-black walls and ornate door frame, but for the life of me I can’t figure out now exactly where it was taken. For once, Google has let me down in finding the name or location of this red door on what I have to assume is a church or cathedral. If you know where this is, please do let me know in the comments! I’d love to name it appropriately.

Usually I’m pretty good at this sort of thing, but I shot very little personal work on that tour, and this just got lost in the mix.

The colors of the shot really pull me in. The framing isn’t great; I have to wonder why the bottom is cut off. I may have been shooting over a gate or a wall or a rubbish bin, because I certainly wouldn’t have shot it that way without good reason. Anyway, it is what it is, and I still think it’s pretty.

Where are you, oh great red door?!

I do like the photo, but as to where it was taken I can help a little. I found this photo on Flickr that I think shows the red door. It can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mjc17/5255233399/

I see in that photo that there are signs that say Cafe Hub. When I google that there is a restaurant with that name at Castlehill. Looks like a rather nice place to get lunch, dinner or have a reception. I couldn't find any photos of the red door, but I suspect it might be the same place.

Chris,

I do believe you're right; it's The Hub at Edinburgh. It's quite the posh place to rent out for weddings and other events. It must have been roped off when I photographed it, hence the odd crop.

In one of their marketing brochures I found a tiny image of the front of the building with the doors open, but it was pretty clearly the same place.

Thanks for the sleuthing!

As I'm from Edinburgh I thought I'd use this as a "dead time at work filler."
Searching around the local hotspots I came up with The Hub too.
The marking on the stonework match on your image and Google Maps.
