Sunrise Over Phoenix

Early this morning (and I mean early… 4:15am wakeup, pre-5am out the door) my friend Ron took me on a sunrise hike up Thunderbird Mountain to see the city of Phoenix in the early morning light. We fortunately got a few clouds to liven up the sky a bit, which basically went from black to blue, bypassing the shades of orange and red one hopes for in a desert sunrise. The only non-blue hues were right on the horizon, escaping as quickly as the temperature rose.

Love the light rays coming from behind the tree in number 4. And to think... if you had flown you could have seen all the fun that was at JFK with the flight attendant loosing his MIND with the woman who bonked him on the head with her bag... aren't you glad you are taking your time??

Nice set. I especially like the second one, with the sun just barely illuminating the brush in the foreground.

Nice shots. I plan on making the same trip later this year. The nice thing about leaving the hotel that early is you can still make it back with plenty of time to catch some zzzz's before checkout!

Hi Joseph,

Yay Phoenix! I’m from there. Your sunrise shot is one of my favorites. I’ll go comment on the other from NM in a minute. Thanks for the pics while you drive. I hope your trip is as rewarding for you as it is for us watching. I hope you have a great time when you arrive at the destination too! Maybe I’ll see you back at Stone Brew again with the So Cal crew. Don’t forget Tap 19! :-)
