Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 10:35 PM Vincent Laforet's “Nocturne” Behind The Scenes Video
Vincent Laforet’s short film “Nocturne”, shot on the Canon EOS 1D Mk IV, initially released on October 19, then removed per Canon’s request, has finally been re-released, so I can now share the behind-the-scenes video I edited for Vincent that I blogged about all those months ago. Without any further ado… here you go [or play on Vimeo if you prefer]. More info on the video at the bottom.
I edited the video, and shooting credit goes to Joshua Lipton and Matt Louie. Edited in Final Cut from a mix of raw H.264 footage straight off the camera and some that had been converted to ProRes. Mostly edited on a flight to New York on the way to Photo Plus Expo, in anticipation of releasing it right away, but by the time I’d landed the Nocturne had been pulled… and that brings us to today. It’s only now that Canon has officially released the video that we’re finally able to share the “behind the scenes”. You can also read more about working on the shoot on Stu Maschwitz’s site prolost.com.

Nope, the HDMI output is not the raw feed I'm afraid. For that you gotta go RED ;-)
thank Joseph
Good job...
What type of external monitor is he using?
Scu; I don't know offhand. Pop on over to Vincent's blog and dig around in there. He's probably already talked about the gear he used on this shoot quite a bit.
Hi Joseph,
Great work! I've seen your movie at a Canon event a couple weeks ago and was just blown away with what's possible with photo cameras this days. Just got my Canon 7d (since my budget gets limited by my girl ;-)) and was looking for some ideas about my first project with the 7d, when I found your website/blog.
Great stuff, keep the good work going and stay creative.
Cheers Mike
HI Joshua Lipton and Matt Louie or anyone who read this...
I just got a 1D Mark4 for a short film I'm about to shoot. Learning from Vincent Laforet experience, I shot a test shoot in a very fair light area. I cranked up the ISO from 1000 and gradually to 6400. The video is getting too much noise when it is even at 1250. While in Vincent Laforet's work, he cranked his ISO up to 6400 but we dont see much noise. Please enlighten me on this knowledge. Hiow do I get the rid off the noise? Thanks all for being in here to make the diffenrence.

Taelin,
You should post that question over on Vincent's blog, or dig around in there for someone who's already asked it. There was definitely no noise removal done to the footage!
